Application Process & Requirements
Initial review and security vetting is generally estimated at around 3–6 months. After conditional approval, applicants receive a temporary residence period to complete the qualifying investment; overall timing can vary by route, documentation and case complexity.
Citiverse starts with an eligibility and compliance review covering the main applicant, eligible family members, source of funds, source of wealth, criminal-record requirements and the intended investment route. A tailored document checklist is then prepared for the case.
Choose one of the four qualifying routes: USD 250,000 state contribution; USD 300,000 qualifying real estate; USD 350,000 business investment plus a USD 100,000 state contribution; or a USD 500,000 bank deposit. Citiverse helps compare the route structure, holding requirements and capital implications.
The application file is prepared with the required identity, civil-status, police-clearance, financial and source-of-funds documentation. A non-refundable administrative fee of USD 10,000 is currently payable through the prescribed Central Bank of Egypt process from abroad.
The completed file is submitted through the Citizenship Application Examination Unit operating under the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), together with the supporting documents and evidence required for the selected route.
The relevant Egyptian authorities carry out background, security and compliance checks. The review can include criminal-record verification, sanctions screening and assessment of the applicant’s financial profile and source of funds.
Following successful review, the applicant may receive conditional approval and a temporary residence period of up to approximately six months to complete the qualifying investment in accordance with the approved route.
The applicant completes the selected investment and provides evidence of payment, property registration, bank deposit or business capital deployment, as applicable. Route-specific holding and maintenance requirements must then be observed.
After the investment has been verified, the application proceeds for the final citizenship decision. Once citizenship is granted, the applicant can complete the relevant identity and Egyptian passport formalities for themselves and approved family members.

FAQ - Egypt Citizenship by Investment
The Egypt Citizenship by Investment Program allows qualifying foreign investors to apply for Egyptian citizenship through an approved investment. The available routes include a state contribution, qualifying real estate, business investment and a bank deposit, with applications subject to documentation, due diligence and government approval.
The program currently starts from USD 250,000 through a non-refundable contribution to the state’s public treasury. Other routes require USD 300,000 for qualifying real estate, USD 350,000 in a business plus a USD 100,000 state contribution, or a USD 500,000 bank deposit.
There are four principal routes: a non-refundable state contribution, qualifying government-owned or approved real estate, investment in a new or existing local business, and a Central Bank of Egypt deposit. Each route has different capital, holding and refund conditions.
The real estate route requires a minimum investment of USD 300,000 in qualifying government-owned or approved real estate. The property is generally subject to a five-year holding period before disposal, subject to the applicable program rules.
The bank deposit route requires USD 500,000 through the designated Central Bank of Egypt structure. The deposit is held for three years without interest and is refundable in Egyptian pounds at the applicable exchange rate after the holding period.
Yes. The principal applicant can include their spouse and eligible dependent children, subject to the applicable age, documentation and security requirements. Current public program guidance commonly refers to children up to age 21.
Public program guidance does not state a minimum ongoing physical-presence requirement after Egyptian citizenship is granted. A temporary residence period may be provided after conditional approval so that the applicant can complete the qualifying investment.
Initial application review and security vetting is generally estimated at around 3–6 months. The total process can take longer depending on the investment route, documentation and due diligence, with a temporary period available after conditional approval to complete the investment.
Yes. Current public guidance states that a non-refundable USD 10,000 administrative fee is payable at the application stage through the prescribed Central Bank of Egypt process, in addition to the qualifying investment and any other applicable costs.
Yes. Current program guidance states that qualifying investment funds are to be transferred in US dollars from abroad. Applicants should also be prepared to document the lawful source of funds and source of wealth.
Egypt is an E-2 treaty country with the United States. An Egyptian national may therefore be eligible to apply for an E-2 Treaty Investor visa, but citizenship alone does not guarantee a visa: the applicant and U.S. investment must independently satisfy the E-2 requirements.
A typical file includes a valid passport, birth and marital-status documents, police-clearance certificates, financial and source-of-funds evidence, and documents relating to the selected investment route. Authentication, legalization and certified Arabic translations may be required depending on where documents are issued.
